Privacy Policy

Your photos stay yours.

Effective October 11, 2026. This policy covers the Fotologue app for iPad and this website.

The short version
  • Your photos, the writing on their backs, your notes, years and places never reach us. They stay on your iPad, in your iCloud, and in Apple Photos if you add them there.
  • Fotologue has no account and no server of ours that holds your library.
  • Fotologue sends anonymous usage counts and crash counts so we can improve it. They can't be linked to you, and you can turn them off in Settings.
  • No ads, no tracking across other apps or websites, and we never sell data.

Who we are

Fotologue is made by David Garcia ("we", "us"). If you have a question about this policy or your data, write to hello@fotologue.app.

What stays on your devices

Everything you put into Fotologue is processed on your iPad and stored where you choose. We have no access to it.

  • Scans. Images travel from your scanner to your iPad over your local Wi‑Fi network. They don't pass through the internet.
  • Finding photos and reading backs. Fotologue uses Apple's on‑device Vision framework to find each print on the glass and to read handwriting on the backs. This happens on the iPad.
  • Your Library. Photos and their details (year, place, notes and the text from the back) are saved as ordinary image files in your iCloud Drive, or on your iPad if iCloud Drive is off. iCloud is Apple's service and is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple Photos and sharing. Photos go to Apple Photos only when you tap Add to Photos or turn on Add New Scans to Photos, and only then does Fotologue ask for permission to add to your photo library and keep a "Fotologue" album there. It doesn't read the rest of your library. When you share photos by AirDrop, Messages, Mail or Save to Files, they go only where you send them.
  • Settings and scanner details. Your chosen scanner, its security certificate, your preferences and how long scans take are kept on the iPad.

Sharing with family

If you share your Library with family, Fotologue uses Apple's iCloud sharing (CloudKit). Your photos and their details are stored in your iCloud account and shared only with the people you invite. Anyone in the family library can see its photos, backs and notes, and can add years and notes. We can't see shared libraries. You can stop sharing or remove people at any time from Settings in Fotologue.

What we collect

To learn which features are used and where scans fail, Fotologue sends anonymous usage signals through TelemetryDeck, a privacy‑focused analytics service.

DataWhat it isUsed for
Product interactionFixed event names, such as "scan finished", "photos added to Photos" or which screen was opened, with rounded values like how many photos were found (for example "2–4") or how long a scan took (for example "1–2 min"), the scan settings used, and the scanner model name (for example "EPSON ET‑2850 Series").Analytics
Crash and performance dataA count when the app crashes or freezes, from Apple's MetricKit. Nothing from the report itself is sent.Analytics
Device and app detailsApp version, iPadOS version, device model, and language and region settings, added by TelemetryDeck to each signal.Analytics
Anonymous device IDA one‑way hash of an identifier Apple gives the app on your iPad. It lets us count how many iPads use a feature without knowing whose they are.Analytics

Usage signals never include your photos, the writing on the backs, notes, years, places, file or folder names, your scanner's network address or certificate, or error messages. This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you.

Turning it off

Usage data is on when you install Fotologue. To stop it, open Settings in Fotologue and turn off Share Anonymous Usage Data. It takes effect straight away and nothing more is sent.

Crash reports from Apple

If you chose to share analytics with app developers in your iPad's Settings, Apple may also send us crash reports and performance data. Apple controls this and you can change it in iPadOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.

Purchases

Fotologue Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles payment, and we never see your payment details or Apple Account. The app only learns whether Pro is unlocked.

What we don't do

  • We don't ask you to create an account.
  • We don't show ads or use advertising identifiers.
  • We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
  • We don't sell or rent data to anyone.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies or analytics. It's hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.

Children

Fotologue is meant for families and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Keeping and deleting data

Your Library is yours to keep or delete. Deleting photos in Fotologue, or deleting the Fotologue folder from iCloud Drive, removes them. Because usage data is anonymous, we can't find or return the signals from a particular iPad, but you can stop them at any time with the switch in Settings. Usage data is kept only as long as it helps us improve the app.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data, or to object to how it's used. Write to hello@fotologue.app and we'll help.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
